Love Potion Number 9

I was a bit dismayed when Fiona bounded out of school last week and announced she wanted to make a "love potion". Excuse me, what...a love potion? Seriously, what was taught at school today to give her that idea.

My mind raced in a million directions, but I secretly know the idea probably stemmed right from the source, my daughter. After 5 years of parenting I reminded myself that the ideas of kids are often so, well...interesting.

When we arrived home she immediately asked for her Halloween candy stash. I watched in awe for nearly 15 minutes as she carefully unwrapped every piece and dump the candy into a Mason jar. But, when I watched her push her step stool next to the faucet and begin to pour hot water over the entire mass of candy I was taken a back. In nearly a few minutes all of the Halloween candy had dissolved into a brownish liquid, aka "love potion". She was thrilled.

It really was a beautiful thing. For months, I'd thought of ways to get rid of the Halloween candy instead of being consumed by my kids. In a stroke of clear 5 year old intelligence it was gone. Love Potion Number 9...
